Juventus eye Palmisani for the goal, but Frosinone cool it down: "just chatter"
Juventus CEO Giovanni Carnevali has laid out a clear plan: bring more Italians back into the squad. "I think having strong Italian players today isn't that simple, but at Juventus there is a will to bring them in," the executive said, adding that he wants to target "young lads" with "potential".
The reasoning behind the shift is easy to see in the numbers from last summer's transfer window: of the nine new first-team signings, only two were Italian, Guglielmo Vicario and Jeff Ekhator. And right now Vicario, the national team's third-choice goalkeeper, is the only Juventus player in the Italy squad. Such a thin presence hasn't been seen in years, and that is the backdrop against which Carnevali has decided to act.
The first name the CEO mentioned is Lorenzo Palmisani, the Frosinone goalkeeper who recently renewed his contract through 2031. Carnevali admits there has been no direct contact yet with the Ciociaria club, but calls him "a player with an important future": an Italian profile worth investing in precisely because "he needs time to grow".
The valuation being discussed sits between 15 and 20 million euros, a figure that says a lot about Juventus seeing Palmisani as an investment in the future rather than an immediate reinforcement: he would be unlikely to start, with Vicario still favourite for the Juventus goal. Marco Carnesecchi, who recently renewed with Atalanta, has been ruled out as too expensive, requiring an offer at least double the size.
On the other side, though, Frosinone president Maurizio Stirpe quickly cooled things down. Asked about the transfer talk, he said bluntly that for now it is "just chatter", that he hasn't received any phone calls, and that he is waiting for "official, concrete offers". No negotiation is under way, then: just a name pencilled in on Juventus's list for next summer.
For anyone with him on their fantacalcio roster, nothing changes for now. Palmisani is coming off a strong start to the season, with his price already up two points since the opening weeks and a further rise after the last matchday: he remains the starting goalkeeper of a Frosinone side giving him full trust and continuity, which right now counts for more than a transfer rumour still far from taking shape. A move to Juventus as Vicario's understudy would, if anything, make him less useful for fantacalcio purposes than the starting role he holds today in Ciociaria, where his saves keep earning points. No reason to make a move ahead of the coming matchdays: Juventus and Palmisani remains a link of interest from Continassa, not an imminent deal, and the first to pump the brakes is the very club president who keeps him between the posts today.
