Scalvini renews with Atalanta until 2031: what changes for fantasy owners

Atalanta is holding on to one of its best academy products. On Sunday the club announced a contract extension for Giorgio Scalvini, whose deal previously ran to 30 June 2028. The official statement does not give an end date: Tuttosport, Calciomercato.com and Sky Sport all report 2031, three seasons beyond the old agreement.

Atalanta's announcement leans entirely on belonging. Scalvini joined the youth academy in the summer of 2015, grew up on the pitches of Zingonia, and has already made 144 professional appearances for the first team, including the night in Dublin and the 2024 Europa League run. He thanked the Percassi family and director Giuntoli in return, naming that final and his Serie A debut among his favourite memories.

What changes for fantasy football. Nothing on the pitch: a renewal does not hand out minutes, nor does it take any away. What changes is the horizon. For the coming transfer windows, Scalvini is not a name heading for the exit, and anyone who has built a back line around him does not need to plan for a sale in January or next summer. In leagues that keep players from one season to the next, that is exactly the kind of certainty owners look for in a twenty-two-year-old defender.

Our numbers. On the Rainbow price list he is an 11-value defender, in the 11-20 band, where a high rating is worth an extra point. He has risen a point since the start of the season, with the latest bump arriving at matchday five. Within Atalanta's back line he sits above Zappacosta, valued at 8, and above Bellanova and Hien, both at 7. In practice: the renewal is not a reason to pay more for him. Owners who already have him keep him; anyone chasing him now will not find a discount, but the news has not inflated his price either.

The international break. Scalvini is currently away with Mancini's Italy for the Nations League. He came on in the second half against Belgium, a match Italy lost, and Tuttosport lists him among the starters for Monday's game against Turkey. International fixtures earn no fantasy points, but they do take a toll: once the league resumes, it is worth watching how he comes back, especially on a matchday when your defence has no safe alternative.

The practical takeaway is short. Scalvini stays where he is, and stays a defender to start whenever he plays. The renewal adds no bonus, but it removes a doubt, and for anyone thinking across multiple seasons, that is worth almost as much as a goal.
